A broad range of training programs in pharmaceutical medicine Covers all training needs of specialists working in drug development

Continuing Education

The European Center of Pharmaceutical Medicine (ECPM) is dedicated to being the leading university institute for medicines and drug development in Europe. The institute was founded in 1991 to cover the training needs of specialists working in drug development.

The ECPM belongs to the department of public health of the medical faculty at the University of Basel and operates with partners worldwide. It is accredited as IMI PharmaTrain “Centre of Excellence” and acknowledged by the International Federation of Associations of Pharmaceutical Physicians (IFAPP).

We offer a range of different training programs that provide a holistic understanding of the drug, medicines or device development process from discovery to the benefit of patients including key concepts in clinical trials, regulatory science and marketing. Postgraduate teaching activities are concentrated on the ECPM Advanced Studies programs and the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) short courses as well as on the Postgraduate Program in Public Health -  jointly offered by the Universities of Basel, Bern and Zurich, under the umbrella of the Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+).

The ECPM Diploma Course runs over two years and contains six modules. It represents the core of the postgraduate training platform. In conformity with the Bologna system, the course offers students to obtain a Diploma (DAS) or Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Pharmaceutical Medicine in a two-year program and a Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Medicines Development in a five-year program. Our broad range of CPD short courses count towards the Master program, yet they are also a stand-alone offer and can be booked individually.

The programs are targeted at representatives from the pharmaceutical industry, service industry, academic and government decision- and policy-makers who already have a good understanding of the basics of drug development and will benefit from a more in-depth, comprehensive and systematic immersion into modern medical product and device development, regulation and market introduction.

Participation in the ECPM training programs provides the opportunity to integrate work and education, to discuss with experts face-to-face or online, to gain in-depth knowledge and enhance your expertise while building a professional network, and to put this into perspective with your own career plan.

An international faculty of experts from academia, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and regulatory authorities carry the teaching responsibility.
