Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Pharmaceutical Medicine - 20 ECTS

To earn the Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Pharmaceutical Medicine from the University of Basel, participants must successfully complete a two-year course cycle and pass a 120-question multiple-choice exam (MCQ). Since September 2018, the CAS/DAS in Pharmaceutical Medicine has been recognized by Swissethics as training for investigators and sponsor-investigators in research ethics and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) in Pharmaceutical Medicine - 30 ECTS / Swiss Specialist in Pharmaceutical Medicine (FMH and SwAPP)

To earn the Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) in Pharmaceutical Medicine from the University of Basel, participants must complete a two-year course cycle and pass the following exams:

1. Multiple-Choice Exam (MCQ): 120 questions
2. Oral Exam: Based on pre-reading a peer-reviewed paper
3. Essay Exam: Three one-page summaries on assigned topics

• Exam Fees: CHF 750 (Retake fees: CHF 500 for the MCQ; CHF 750 for the oral/essay exams)

MDs who complete the DAS may apply for a Swiss Specialist in Pharmaceutical Medicine Diploma offered by the FMH (Swiss Association of Medical Doctors)
MScs or PhDs may apply for a SwAPP (Swiss Association of Pharmaceutical Professionals) Diploma. FMH Exam Registration – August 18, 2026 and September 1, 2026 – MCQ, Oral and Essay Exam

The FMH exams for the Swiss Specialist Title in Pharmaceutical Medicine are scheduled as follows:

• MCQ Exam Date: August 18, 2026
• Oral/Essay Exam Date: September 1, 2026
• Registration Opens: April 2, 2026
• Registration Deadline: June 30, 2026

Swiss federal regulations require candidates to pass the MCQ exam before proceeding to the oral/essay exams. This option is applicable only to Swiss or foreign candidates who have worked at a Swiss Postgraduate Training Center for at least 1.5 years or are in the final year of postgraduate training.
